Vessel Safety Checks

In addition to teaching our education classes, our members provide free vessel safety checks.

A free yearly Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is an important safeguard to a safe day on the water. There are no consequences if your boat doesn’t pass. Our goal, in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, is simply to make boating as safe as possible for you, your family and your friends. After passing an exam, you will receive a sticker to be displayed on the port side of your boat signifying your commitment to safe boating.

Human-powered watercraft (canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards) are also boats -- have these checked out as well.

During an examination the Vessel Examiner will look at:

  • Registration and vessel numbers

  • Navigation lights

  • Anchor & line

  • Life Jackets

  • Fire extinguishers

  • Sound producing device

  • Flame arrestors and ventilation (if required)

  • No oil in bilge

  • General safe boat condition

Our Next Free Vessel Safety Exams

Our next organized VSC will be April 27, 2024 at the Buster Boyd Wildlife Access, Lake Wylie SC. But you can still ask for an individual exam. Sign up below!

UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. CONTINUE TO CHECK HERE FOR THE NEXT ONE. IF YOU WANT TO SCHDULE A VSC INDIVIDUALLY COMPLETE THE FORM AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.
